Once upon a time… there was a great ogre named Shrek who lived quietly in a very distant swamp, far away from worldly noises and, above all, far away from any living being that could bother him. He was an ornery ogre who lived a quiet life and the only thing he bothered to do was to scare intruders who approached his habitat.

But one day, their peace and solitude are disturbed, their home is invaded by the fairy tale creatures sent there by the evil Lord Farquaad. All the fairy tale characters have been banished and have found no better place to go than Shrek’s swamp. Among so many characters, he meets one of them, the Donkey, with whom he decides to go to Lord Farquaad to get him to vacate the swamp. To do so, they reach a pact:

– I will do what you ask but on one condition, said Lord, you must bring me Princess Fiona, rescuing her from a castle surrounded by burning lava and guarded by a dragon.

– We accepted, said both of them.

After several days on the road, they arrive at the castle where Princess Fiona is.

Upon arriving at the castle, Donkey is in charge of distracting the dragon, whom he tricks by pretending to be in love. Shrek manages to rescue Princess Fiona and they flee leaving the dragon sad.

The three of them happily set off in search of the Lord, to whom they deliver the princess so that he can marry her. Along the way, numerous adventures take place. One of the nights they spent in the forest….

– Ohh God!!! But Shrek if you have become a woman… said Donkey.

– NOOO… I am Fiona, come and let me explain, since I was a little girl I was cast a spell and at night I turn into an Ogress. Only the kiss of my true love will make me take his form, either human or ogress.

They talk for a while, referring to her, she comments that no one could love such a disgusting beast. Shrek, who had only heard this, thought she was talking about him and disappointed decides not to confess his love to her. The next morning, when Fiona greets Shrek, he is angry and indifferent, she asks him why his reaction and he replies that he had heard “everything” and that indeed no one could love such an ugly beast. Shrek, with that comment, felt very bad about Fiaona’s supposed rejection.

The ogre goes in search of Lord Farquaad to deliver the princess to him, as he does not want to see her anymore. She meets Lord and is surprised by his short stature and arrogant attitude. Shrek retrieves the deeds to his swamp to live alone again and Fiona, resenting Shrek, tells Lord Farquaad that she wants to get married that very afternoon.

Shrek returns to his swamp, Donkey follows him: – you can’t let them take Fiona away from you, you must fight for her love.

– She doesn’t love me, she considers me a horrible beast, replied Shrek.

– You are wrong, – replied Donkey – it was not you we were talking about, but her.

Shrek realizes the misunderstanding and decides to go after Fiona. Donkey unexpectedly calls the dragon and they fly to the church where the wedding was being held.

Upon arrival, Shrek interrupts and clarifies everything, and regardless of the mockery of the people, they give each other the kiss of true love and Fiona is transformed into an ogress forever.

After this wonderful kiss, the two leave in a beautiful carriage and “lived ugly forever”
